About John

Hi, my name is John Darrow!

I have been fortunate to call San Diego my home my entire life. In November 2013, I married my best friend Irina and the Lord has blessed us with two amazing children: Zoe Elizabeth in August 2014 and Jack Theodore in July 2016.

I have created this blog for a few reasons:

First, I am thinker. For me it seemed like the logical space to freely display my thoughts either for myself or whoever else may be interested. As I have grown in my faith for nearly twenty years, I feel like now is a good time to start putting my thoughts out there for others to see.

Second, and related to the first, I want to grow as a writer. I want to develop my ideas in a way that are biblically and theologically sound yet culturally accessible. Not only do I want to share my ideas about the Christian faith but I also desire to have healthy dialogues with those who may see things a little differently. Well, that is my hope anyway.

A little bit of my theological background is in order. I was not raised in a religious household, but through my own journey came to faith in Jesus at 17 years old. Since then I have desired to know more about following the Jesus of Scripture. As I pursued this knowledge, I ended up receiving my BA in Biblical Studies from Horizon University (San Diego), where I currently teach courses in theology. I continued on to receive my MA in Theological Studies from Bethel Seminary (San Diego), and am currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree in Contextual Theology through Northern Seminary (Chicago). Needless to say, these three institutions have afforded me the benefit of broad and robust exposure to theological traditions which have given me space to formulate my own convictions regarding the numerous issues related to the Christian faith.

As a result, over the last few years I have identified as a Neo-Anabaptist within the evangelical tradition. Therefore, my thoughts and reflections will largely be stemming from this approach to Scripture. I hope you enjoy what I have to say, but more importantly I hope you will feel welcomed to join me on this journey with contributions of your own.
